For my graduation project, I originally intended to use the lotus, a flower I've always loved, as the theme of this series. While collecting reference material, I discovered that the lotus is a treasure trove – the lotus flower, leaves, seedpod, stamens, root, core, stem, seeds, and more, each with its own medicinal properties. So I visited a traditional Chinese medicine shop to find plenty of dried lotus flowers and their various parts, each with its own unique posture or even a touch of weathered beauty. The natural colours and plain textures of the materials themselves, the transformations of their growth stages, not only possess visual beauty but also emit unique scents that provide viewers with multisensory stimulation. Furthermore, the irreversible transformations throughout its life cycle also convey the randomness and transience of life, carrying the message of "to live in the moment." In addition, the lotus evokes the striking image of "growing out of the mud unsullied," a particularly moving image… Therefore, I made the lotus and its transformations of its growth forms as the central subject, using them to express the poetic story of its life.

After the bustling days have passed, I’ve learned to appreciate nature’s simple face and the patina that time brings. It is precisely because of its imperfections, incompleteness, and impermanence that it feels all the more rich and sweet—just like life itself… Having experienced life's transformations and been etched by the passing years, the story naturally becomes moving; the viewer need only needs to fall silent and listen…
